从外籍编委审校英文学报看中译英常见的问题*

( 农业生物技术学报编辑部 cau cj ab@gma i.l co m 北京市 100193)摘 要 用英文发表文章不仅是国际交流的需要，也是研究成果评估的一个标准。但大部分科研工作者英文稿件的表达水平较差，常令外籍审稿专家无法修改。从Chinese Journa l o f A gr icu lt ura l B iotechno logy (CJ A B)( 中国农业生物技术学报(英文版))已发表文章的编辑修改过程中，我们发现四种主要问题:1意思表述不清楚，中国式英语;2句子不精练，结构繁琐;3句子不完整，缺少谓语或介词等;4谓语动词不确切或同一动词多次重复。针对以上问题，作者列举了具有代表性的例句并给出了正确的答案，同时提出了提高中译英文章可读性的五项建议。

近年来，英文稿件越来越受到重视。用英文发表文章不仅是国际交流的需要，也是研究成果评估的一个标准[1]。但大部分科研工作者英文稿件的表达水平较差，常令外籍审稿专家无法修改。翻译公司翻译，价格高又翻译得不很准确。因此，如何提高英文稿件的表达水平已成为许多科研工作者亟待解决的问题。
Chinese Journal of Agricu ltural B io technology (中国农业生物技术学报,C J AB)是中国农业大学分别和C AB I nternati o na l(2004 2006)和英国剑桥大学出版社(2006至今)合作出版的英文版刊物。CJ AB的文章选自在国际上可能引起兴趣的近期出版的 农业生物技术学报上的文章。经过翻译和外籍专家修改，以及作者校对(此稿发给C J AB主编)等一系列程序，最后在国外编辑出版发行(I SSN1479-2362)。
C J A B已成为国际同行了解中国生物技术研究水平的重要刊物。作为合作出版者, 农业生物技术学报编辑部拥有文章编译进程中的所有版本(中文稿件、译稿、修改稿、校样和正式出版的英文文章)。通过对部分文章的系列的修改校对的比较，我们发现英文译文主要有4个方面问题。本文分别列举了这4个方面的例句并提供了正确的答案，同时提出了如何提高英文文章可读性的5项建议。希望能对一些作者写英文摘要或文章有所帮助。
1 中国式英语，意思表述不清
random翻译中国式英语是由中国式的语法与英语词汇组合而成[2]。这种英语单从语法结构上看，挑不出什么问题，中国人一看就明白表达的是什么意思，甚至给人一种非常!流利∀的印象，但外国人看着却晦涩难懂[3]。
1.1整段内容字对字翻译
例1其中特异表达(特异表达而亲本不表达)条带3条，增强表达(表达量高于亲本)条带1条，分别命名为EE/CC 1,EE/CC 2,EE/CC 3和EE/CC 4，差异显示图谱见图1.

例254个可育菌株中有2个菌株由PCR 和GUY11/KA3两种方法鉴定的结果不一致，其中，菌株96024经PCR方法检测MAT1 2，而用GUY11/KA3鉴定为MAT1 1；另一个菌株98011经PCR检测其交配型为MAT1 1，而用GUY11/KA3鉴定为MAT1 2(表2)。

1.2一字不漏的翻译，词义重叠或造成困惑
在汉语中，有时因为音韵的需要或修辞的需要而添加某个词。如果将这样的词!字对字∀地译成英语，这些字在英文中将变成赘词[4]。
例33月龄左右的山羊胎儿，从屠宰场获得，胎膜完整，浸泡在0.9%生理盐水中,4%贮存。
译文:Three m onths post co itum Goat fet u s w ere co llected fro m the slaughterhouse,stored at 4%and marinated i n0.9%N a C.l

例4另一类是形态较大、呈圆形、聚集生长的细胞。

2 句子累赘，结构繁琐[5-6]
由于多数句子是句对句的翻译，结构上不符合英文的习惯用法，显得非常繁琐。英语一句话或一个词
就可以表达清楚，而我们绕了很大一圈，意思也表达不清楚。这类句子在翻译中出现的非常多。
例5尽管柑橘不育、低育资源多样性水平比较高,∃∃
译文:Though genetic diversity of sterile and lo w fertile ger m plas m w as rather affluent as herein revealed.∃

例9为了解斑鳠(M ystus guttatus)不同地理种之间的遗传分化程度，基于RAPD技术，分析了珠江水系西江段野生斑鳠的遗传多样性。利用20个随机引物对30个斑鳠个体的基因组DNA进行了PC R扩增。

3 句子不完整，有缺词现象或省略应用不当3.1句子明显缺词
由于字对字的翻译，句中用中文表达清楚的内容，英文中如不添加相关借词，句子的意思就变了，或不通顺。
例10羊胎儿mGSCs被同质化过程中，同源细胞增多，使得残余集落细胞得以存在。
译文:During ho m ogenization o f fetus goat mGSC s,ho m o l o gous ce lls ofmGSC s i n creased and caused rest cells in the clusters ex isti n g.
修改注释:Very unclear!!!So m e thing is m issi n g!!!

例11在小鼠成纤维细胞饲养层上接种的山羊胎儿睾丸细胞,(在培养到72h时)能见到形态变化的集落，集落中细胞出现空泡。
译文:On MEF feed i n g layer,t h e shape o f mGSCs c l u sters changed and so m e ce lls in the center o f cl u sters appeared e m p t y bubble.

3.2省略不当
省略的内容看不出来是前面提到的哪一个，容易引起误解。
例12台湾株有9个位点与VR2332相同，有3个位点与HB 1(sh)/2002系列株一致。
译文:The Ta i w an iso late w as m ore si m ilar to VR2332w ith9positions i d entity,w hereas3po si tions i d entical to HB 1(sh)/2002.

4 动词不确切或缺乏同义词
动词是句子中必要的一个成分。动词的措辞(dicti o n)要求准确和清楚[7]。英语的动词很多，有的词义差别不明显，因此，母语是非英语的人应用这些动词实在是很困难，更不用说同义词(vocabulary)的应用了。
4.1动词不确切
例13聚类分析表明本地广橘与温州蜜柑有着紧密的亲缘关系，而与早橘、槾橘、本地早等的亲缘关系较远。
译文:C luster analysis also revealed that sat sum a m andarin had closer relatedness w ith B en d i g uang ju m andari n than w ith Zao j u,M ankieh, Bend izao tangerine.

例1740个菌株固氮酶活性值均高于500 n m o l/mL/h(表1),∃∃，菌株z7固氮酶活性达到3790n m o l/mL/h。

4.2缺乏同义词的应用
例18菌株1、2和3蛋白电泳图谱基本一致，说明它们属于同一种蛋白质图谱类I。而菌株4、5和6的蛋白图谱相似，为类II。菌株7、8和9为类III。菌株10、11和12为类&。菌株14和15属于类∋。

5 提高英文稿件水平的建议
比较以上经常出现的4种问题，第1种和第3种是不懂中文的外籍专家无法修改的，第2和第4种如果专家有足够的时间和耐心是可以修改的。为了使译文得以顺利的修改，提出以下几点建议。
5.1确认要表达的句子的完整性
要表达的句子不能缺项，要让外国读者看明白(参考3中的例句)。还有一种情况也可以视为句子不完整，下面两个例句即没把要修饰的中心词表达出来。
例19结果证实，广东番茄黄化曲叶病是由ToLCTWV的1个分离物侵染引起的。
译文:I n conclusion,to m ato ye llo w leaf curl d isease in Shantou city o fGuangdong pr ov i n ce was i n fected by an iso late of ToLC TWV(意为曲叶病被侵染).

例20利用这些调节基因转化花卉，成功地改变了它们的花。

英文版刊物是研究人员进行国际学术交流的重要平台。非英语国家的学报能够同时用英语发行刊物是科学出版者的主要目标。在中国，从1990年至2003年，有190多种英文版刊
物正式发表[8]
，仅占所有中文出版期刊的
5%[9]，也就是说，外国人只能了解很少一部分中国出版刊物的内容。这说明可以用英文发表文章的刊物太少了。如果我们用英文投稿的数量多了，英文版的杂志也会逐步丰富起来。6 参考文献

中科院科技翻译协会进行理事会改选
经中科院科技翻译协会会长陈竺批准，中科院科技翻译协会于2009年8月5日完成其第二届
理事会理事的改选工作，产生了中科院译协第三届理事会。
上届中科院译协理事会成员是1992年2月在上海!中国科学院第一届会员代表大会∀上在李佩教授主持下选举产生的，共有理事60名。今年以来，在译协副会长李佩教授和合作局领导的指导下，经3个多月的准备与调研工作，至今年7月底，译协秘书处共收到申报或推荐的候选人共46名。本着注重!翻译实践∀和!热心译协∀两项重要条件，经理事会慎重讨论和表决，最后选出了35名成员组成的译协第三届理事会。 (宜司南)
