    My Awesome Hometown
Hi there! My name is Alex and I'm 10 years old. I love my hometown so much and I want to tell you all about it. Get ready, because there's a lot of really cool stuff where I'm from!
I live in a place called Lijiang in the Yunnan province of China. Lijiang is super old - it's been around for over 800 years! But it's still just as amazing today. The whole Old Town area in the center is protected because the buildings and culture are so special and unique.
The buildings in Old Town have this really neat style of architecture called Dayan. The houses are all made out of wood and decorated with really pretty carvings of flowers, animals, and other designs. The roofs are made out of brown tiles that curve upwards at the corners. It's supposed to look like a cow's horns!
My favorite part is all the small rivers and bridges running through the town. The rivers are called Heilong Pools and the water is so clear you can see all the way to the bottom. There are overpasses called Jhenqing Bridges that arch over the rivers. They were built hundreds of years ago but people still use them to cross over the water every day.
Old Town is like a maze with all its little alleyways and courtyards tucked away. You never know what you'll find by wandering around! There are tons of cool shops selling artsy things made by local people. You can get engraved woodcarvings, embroidered bags and clothes, jewelry, paintings, and more. The crafts here are world-famous.
I love watching the ladies in Old Town who make traditional Lijiang snacks. One of my favorites is fried cheese - it sounds weird but it's really yummy! You can also get all sorts of bakery treats like sweet breads, cakes, and nut brittles. YUM!
The people of Lijiang have their own language called Naxi that is really old too. Not a lot of people speak it anymore, but you can still find Naxi writing and symbols carved on buildings and stuff. We also have our own ethnic music played on bamboo instruments. It h
as a very unique sound.
Every year in Lijiang there are awesome festivals and holidays with dancing, singing, plays, and other performances. My favorite is the Torch Festival in the summer where people from the villages carry huge bonfires on their backs through the streets. It's so bright and beautiful at night!
Lijiang is located right in the foothill area of the Yulong Snow Mountains. They are part of the Himalayas and have snowy peaks that are over 5,500 meters high! The views of the mountains from town are just breathtaking. There are cable cars that take you up to see beautiful lakes, valleys, and glaciers.

We also have amazing gorges and valleys nearby that are great for hiking, rock climbing, and just enjoying the scenery. One is called Tiger Leaping Gorge because there's a legend about a tiger that jumped across the huge canyon there. The gorges have waterfalls, ancient trees, and winding trails that are a blast to explore.
Another cool natural spot is the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. It's a 5,600 meter tall mountain that looks emerald green because of the trees, glaciers, and calm lakes around it. You can ride horses up to the meadows near the base. I went once and saw bright wildflowers as far as you could see!
As you can probably tell, I really love where I'm from. Lijiang has such a unique mix of history, culture, amazing sites, and fun activities. The cuisine is delicious, the markets are lively, and the scenery is just jaw-droppingly beautiful. This place really does have it all!
I feel so lucky to be growing up surrounded by so much rich culture and natural beauty. I hope you'll come visit my awesome hometown sometime. Just don't get lost wandering the alleyways of Old Town - although that's half the fun! Let me know if you need a local guide to show you around.

    My Awesome Hometown
Hi there! My name is Sam and I'm going to tell you all about my super cool hometown. It's the best place ever and I love living there. Let me start by describing where it is.
My hometown is called Greendale and it's a small town in the middle of the countryside. It's surrounded by rolling hills, fields of crops, and lots of trees and forests. We have a few small rivers flowing through too. The air always smells so fresh and clean because of all the nature around us. Living in the city seems like it would be too loud, crowded and dirty to me!
