My Trip to Tongli Ancient Town
Last summer, my mom and dad took me on a trip to Tongli Ancient Town. It was so much fun! Tongli is a very pretty and old town. It has cute little houses and pretty bridges over the water.
We got there by car after a long drive from our house in Shanghai. The town was not too far, only about an hour and a half away. As we got closer, I could see the little houses with their grey brick walls and curved roofs. Everything looked so old and traditional. It was like going back in time!
When we arrived, we parked the car and started walking around the town. The streets wer
e made of big flat stones. There were lots of people walking around too. Some people were riding bikes very slowly. There were no cars allowed in most of the town. Just little alleys for walking.
We crossed over a bridge and I looked down at the water below. The water was green but very clear. I could see little fish swimming around! The bridges had pretty designs carved into the grey brick. We took lots of pictures on the bridges.
3tiles    Then we went inside one of the old houses that is now a museum. It showed what the houses looked like a long time ago when families lived there. There were narrow hallways and small rooms. The ceilings were very low so my dad had to bend down a lot. But the decorations were beautiful with painted designs and old furniture.
For lunch, we ate at a restaurant right on the water canals. We sat outside on the patio and watched the little boats go by. I had sweet and sour pork which is my favorite Chinese food. It was so yummy!
After eating, we went on a boat tour through the town canals. The boat driver used a long pole to push the boat along. We got to see all the houses and bridges from the water. Our boat driver told us that Tongli is over 1,000 years old! That is so old. I have never seen a town that old before.
We also visited some handicraft shops where you could see people making things the traditional way. One shop had ladies weaving silk into pretty patterns. In another shop, there were woodcarvers making detailed designs in wooden sculptures. I bought a little wooden horse sculpture as a souvenir.
At the end of the day, my mom and dad were tired from all the walking. But I could have kept going and going! I loved seeing all the old architecture and traditions. Tongli felt like a town frozen in time from the past. I hope I can go back to Tongli again someday. It was an amazing place to visit.

My Trip to Tongli Ancient Town
Last weekend, my mom and dad took me on a trip to Tongli Ancient Town. It was so much fun!
Tongli is a very old town. It has houses and buildings that are hundreds of years old. Tongli is near a pretty lake. There are boats that take people around the lake. We went on a boat ride. The boat driver used a long stick to push the boat through the water. I saw ducks and fish swimming in the lake.
The streets in Tongli are made of stone. They are called stone roads. No cars are allowed on the stone roads, only people walking. The stone roads were very bumpy. My mom almost fell down when she stepped in a hole! We all laughed.
There were lots of old houses along the stone roads. The houses had curved roofs made of tile. Some roofs had pretty designs. The walls were made of wood and brick. They looked very old but nice. Gardens were behind some houses. I saw bamboo, flowers, and little ponds in the gardens.
Tongli had many bridges over the rivers. We walked across the bridges. I could see fish swimming under the bridges. The biggest bridge was called the Pearl Bridge. It had pretty carvings of lions and other animals. My dad took a picture of me standing on the Pearl Bridge.
We went inside some of the old houses. The houses were very small compared to where we live. The rooms all connected to each other. The windows had paper instead of glass. There were courtyards with trees and rocks in the middle of the houses. We sat in one courtyard to eat our lunch.
For lunch we had tasty noodles from Tongli. The noodles were made by hand. They were thick and chewy. I put soy sauce, vinegar, and chili oil on my noodles. My mom gave me a glass of warm soymilk to drink. It was so good!
After lunch, we walked down a street with lots of shops. We went into some craft shops. I watched a lady making baskets out of reeds. The baskets were very pretty. We bought a tiny basket to take home.
In another shop, there were wood carvings and paintings for sale. My dad bought a wooden horse sculpture. The wood carver let me try carving a piece of wood. It was harder than I thought!
We also stopped at a candy shop. They made candy in the shapes of fish, rabbits, and other animals. The candy was so colorful! I picked out gummies, chocolates, and lollipops. I started eating my candy right away.
