Peer pressure is the phenomenon wherein we tend to get influenced by the lifestyles and the ways of thinking of our peers. Peer pressure is like a double-edged sword.Peer pressure can prove beneficial but it is most often observed to have negative effects on society. The purpose of this essay is to discuss the positive and negative effects of peer pressure on academic performance, family life and personality .
The first effects of peer pressure are about academic performance .Positive peer pressure might Improve one’s grades and confidence .It may result in trying more things or getting involved at school .While negative peer pressure might drop grades ,lower school attendance and impact ability to get
into college .
The second effects caused by peer pressure are upon family life.Positive peer pressure mig
ht help relationships . It improves communication with each other and results in more time with family .On the contrary,negative peer pressure might increase distance from family members .It increases negative behaviors/attitude and hurt communication thus results in less

time spent at home.
The third effects due to peer pressure are on
personality. Both can have negative and positive consequences depending on how they choose to react. Peer
pressure kills individuality and gives rise to a set of
people who are merely clones of each other.Positive peer
pressure might help people observe public ethics and
cultivate civility and courtesy,care about the people
around and take pleasure in helping others ,Thus our
dream and pursue of bu ilding a harmonious society will
come true soon.Nevertheless n egative peer pressure may
induce hangover ,runk driving, physical injury and
Health issues such as sexually transmitted diseases.
In conclusion,the effects of peer pressure which are on
academic performance ,family life and society activities, which can result in positive and negative effects that affect peers. Dealing with peer pressure is a perpetual topic of concern for teens. We should not escape from peer pressure, but learn to make best use of it, since it can hardly be avoided.
