Who Will I Be in One Year?
Next year, when I'm in the grade above, I'm sure a lot of things will be different about me! I'll be a whole year older and maybe I'll have grown a bunch. I'm really hoping I'll be taller – it would be so cool to look down at my little brother instead of him always looking down at me. He loves telling me how small I am. But just you wait, next year I'll probably be as tall as him! Or maybe even taller!!
I'm also really excited to learn new things in my classes. This year, everything we learned was so interesting. We learned about ancient civilizations like Greece and Rome and Egypt. We read all about their cultures and mythologies. My favorite was definitely the Egyptian gods – they had animal heads! How crazy is that? I loved drawing pictures of them. I'll never
forget Anubis with his sleek jackal head. Next year, I wonder what amazing things we'll get to study. Will we learn about medieval kings and castles? Or maybe we'll study world explorers like Christopher Columbus. No matter what, I just know it's going to be awesome.
Besides learning exciting new subjects, I'm really looking forward to getting better at things I'm already doing. Like math - this year I finally started getting multiplying and dividing, but next year we'll probably learn even crazier stuff like fractions and decimals. I was pretty good at addition and subtraction, so I think I can get good at the harder things too if I keep practicing. Mom and Dad are always telling me practice makes perfect. I'll just have to listen to them and keep at it.
sort of look atme什么意思    In reading, I'm getting more fluent already instead of having to sound out every single word. Next year, I'm aiming to be one of the top readers in the class. Maybe I can even make it into the school's Battle of the Books team! Wouldn't that be so cool? I love reading anyways, so it would be like getting rewarded for one of my favorite things. I really want to dive into some classic chapter books that seem too hard for me now, like Harry Potter or Percy Jackson. With another year of reading under my belt, I bet I could handle them.
My writing skills are improving a ton too. This year, I finally got the hang of using compound sentences with words like "and", "but", and "because". Next year, I'll be ready to take it to the next level with even fancier sentence structures. Maybe I'll write a whole book! It could be about dragons or robots or ninja kids. Or maybe I'll be the next Dr. Seuss and write an awesome book of silly rhymes and made-up words. Actually, that would be I'll have to start working on that!
One thing I'm definitely looking forward to is joining the school band! This year they let us try out all the instruments, and I absolutely fell in love with the trumpet. I can still remember how it felt to buzz my lips into that mouthpiece and hear that bold, brassy sound come out. It was like magic! When I brought it home to practice, my dog Buster went totally crazy barking at it. He clearly has no appreciation for fine music. But I do, and I'm going to keep practicing all year so I'll be an expert trumpeter by the time I can join the band. I can't wait to perform in the concerts!
Sports are something else that will probably change for me in the next year. This year, I
was okay at kickball and decent enough at dodgeball, but I hope to get way better at athletic stuff. In gym class, we've been practicing dribbling basketballs and it's really fun. Maybe I'll try out for basketball next year! Or perhaps I'll go for the soccer team or little league baseball. It would be so awesome to be a huge sports star that everyone cheers for. I'll have to pick just one sport though and really dedicate myself to getting super good at it.
Another thing that will be new for me is joining clubs and groups. This year, after-school stuff wasn't really allowed for the youngest kids. But next year, I'll get to check out the art club, sign up for chess club, or even audition for the school musical or play. There are so many possibilities! I could get involved with the science explorers, join the coding champions, or be part of the environmental heroes. Every club looks like a ton of fun. I'll definitely have to spend next year sampling as many as I can.
My family will be the same too, of course. My parents will hopefully still be as fun and silly as ever, even if they do drive me crazy sometimes. I'll still have my pesky little brother bugging me and messing with my stuff. But we'll always be there for each other no matter
what. Maybe next year he'll be a little less annoying? Hah, probably not! But I don't really mind. He's still my brother and I love him.
So while there will definitely be a bunch of amazing new changes and things to look forward to, a lot of the most important stuff will stay just how I like it. A year from now, I'll be growing and learning and experiencing so much. But at the same time, I'll still be me - the same kid who loves to laugh, explore, use my imagination, and spend time with my favorite people. I can't wait to see what awesomeness the next year has in store!
