摘要：PURPOSE:To obtain an organic acid in high purity, by handling both an organic acid anhydride and the organic acid in the solid state in a reactor from beginning to end and producing a final product as it is, in the process producing the organic acid in the solid state through hydrolysis by adding water to the organic acid anhydride in the solid state. CONSTITUTION:In a process producing an organic acid through hydrolysis of an organic acid anhydride such as maleic anhydride with water, simply the organic acid anhydride in solid state is fed into a reactor, if necessary the content in the reactor is fluidized with a stirrer, etc., and water is added thereto under conditions in which the organic acid anhydride and the organic acid in the reactor remain in the solid state, whereby the hydrolysis is finished at an adequate reaction rate, and, if necessary, the resultant product is subjected continuously, as it is, to drying treatment removing a small amount of excess water to obtain the organic acid in high purity. Since the raw material and the reaction product are handled in the solid state in the reactor, the process does not require any filtration separation and such as vaporization of water used, and is extremely economical.
