词汇的结构
⏹英语词汇的形态变化丰富，词缀多且构词能力强。包括：内部形态变化和外部形态变化。
⏹内部形态变化是指通过添加前缀或后缀方式构成意义不同的新词汇。
⏹大多数的前缀只起着构成新词汇的作用。
⏹如，形容词前加un-,non-,im-,ir-构成新词，表示否定意义。
⏹后缀不仅能构成新词，还能改变词性。
⏹如，形容词前添加-en, 变成动词。某些动词后面添加-er或者-or构成名词，表示某一类人。

⏹英语词汇的外部变化是指词汇为了在句中起到句法功能作用而不得不添加的一些特定的标记。如名词有数和格的变化，动词有人称、时态、语态、情态、语气及谓语的变化（如不定式、现在分词、动名词），形容词和副词有比较级和最高级等级的变化等等。
⏹汉语的词汇变化没有形态变化，它主要依靠词语、词序及内在的逻辑关系来表达句子的含义。
⏹比如，汉语中的“老王”和“王老”的意义大不同；“丫头”和“丫头片子”的语气也存在差异；“父亲”和“老爸”也存在感情彩的不同。
⏹因此，英译汉时，一般要通过加词或者变换说法的方法来体现英语中的形态变化；汉译英时，则应该用英语的各种形态来体现汉语的时态、语态、情态和语气等。（1,2）
⏹汉语词汇的骈偶性。现代汉语的词汇很大一部分是双音节词。
⏹如：椅子、桌子、妻子、女儿等。

⏹双音节或对称的关联词。如“因为……所以……”“虽然……但是……” “不但……而且……”“一……就……“
⏹英语的单词和汉语的单字不同，是由音节组成的，可以是单音节词，也可以是多音节词，由于英语的单词长短不一，自然不会追求对称性。因此，我们在英译汉时，通常应注意选词的对称性，而在汉译英的时候则不必考虑这个问题。
⏹1） He went to the party although it was raining.
⏹虽然下着雨，但是他还是参加了派对。
⏹2）He started to do his homework as soon as he came back.
⏹他一回来就开始做作业。
⏹双语词汇的另一个特点便是大量的四字结构。
⏹西方文化没有中国文化那样注重对称和平衡，而是形式上的完整和正确。如表示某个姑娘长得美，汉语中往往会说”天生丽质”
“倾国倾城” “面容姣好”和”风姿绰约”等，而英语中通常只用beautiful 或者very beautiful 来形容。
英译汉时候则不应可以追求形式上的对等。
英汉对译中有一条基本原则，英译汉时，词汇的选择需要注意汉语这种内在的节律性。译文如果注意选择对称的词语，就比较容易上口。

⏹愿译： 最早到麻省定居的移民中，相当大一部分是清教徒，他们是虔诚的和严于律己的人。
⏹改译：最早到麻省定居的移民，大多是虔诚自律的清教徒。
⏹6)Babies satisfactorily born.（电报体）
⏹原译：孩子们顺利地降生了。
⏹改译：孩子已生，一切顺利。
⏹9)She was about thirty years old with indeterminate hair and eyes of a startling clear blue…
⏹她约有30岁，头发很不起眼，眼睛却出人意料地清亮、湛蓝……

⏹英译汉的时候讲究对称，是为了照顾汉语的习惯。但是汉译英的时候，如果因为汉语原文用了对称的词组，在英语中也刻意追求对称，就可能产生适得其反的效果。
⏹13）2100万台湾同胞都是中国人，都是骨肉同胞、手足兄弟。
⏹The 21million compatriots[kəm'petrɪət  in Taiwan are all Chinese and our own flesh and blood.
